What is Functional Neurology?

In practice, functional neurology is often described as being physical therapy for the brain.

Functional Neurology has its roots in neuroplasticity.

Neuroplasticity n. (neuro-plas-tic-ity) is the brain’s ability to rewire and form new connections in order to adapt to the environment at any age. Dr. Timko uses neuroplasticity to make new connections in the brain after injury. Over time, and with the proper amount of repetition these pathways become solidified, brain function improves, and symptoms resolve.

Functional neurology uses the outward expression of the brain’s health and function to localize and treat areas of dysfunction. It is a noninvasive approach that analyzes observable and measurable outputs of the brain and nervous system. Dr. Timko will assess oculomotor function, gait, movement patterns, reflexes, sensory systems, balance, and vestibular function, and then use these same systems to affect change in the brain itself without surgery, drugs, or needles.

Dr. Timko takes a very specific approach to fit your brain’s unique needs. No two treatment plans are identical at Clarity Brain and Body Clinic.
